Kingdom of Heaven
Costume design: Janty Yates.
The production of “Kingdom of Heaven” called for
a lot of embroidery on leather, for gloves and boots. It was a
happy discovery to find just how easily leather embroiders. With
only small adjustments the stitches sit beautifully on top of the
material and can create very good effects.
An embroidery was needed for the character of “Richard
the Lionheart” Two rampant lions were created using couched appliqué
work and metallic threads. Appliqué offers many interesting possibilities
for creating lovely texture on larger surfaces and it is certainly
an area to explore further.
