Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
Costume design: Lindy Hemming.
In "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets"
three gowns were needed for the character of "Gilderoy Lockhart"
played by Kenneth Branagh. The design was based on an embroidered
African caftan. The original embroidery was created with cording;
this effect was approximated with lines of dense satin stitch.
In the movie "Gilderoy Lockhart" fences with the
character “Professor Snape”. For this scene five outfits were needed
for stand ins and Stunt Doubles. Even when stitched on suede the
emblems embroidered very well.
This production paved the way for further exploration,
as it demonstrated the great potential for using computerized embroidery
in costume making. The whole project was embroidered on a domestic
embroidery machine, which sadly lost its force to the good cause.
