18th Century Waistcoat
This waistcoat is the third in a series of embroideries
recreated from original French 18th-century designs.
The series has almost become an exercise in exploring
the intricacies possible to produce. One of the challenges here
as with most other surface decoration is to achieve a balance
that will suggest, the embroidery and fabric is of one and same
story. Ideally the embroidery should appear to almost creep out
of the background rather than decoration and fabric being two
opposite components stuck together. This balance between lines,
stitches, colours and fabric is something to try and explore and
improve endlessly.
These embroideries can be delivered uncut ready
for making. They may be adapted to any required size and the colours
adjusted to other fabrics.
